Annotate Screenshots Where You Capture Them
Mark up a screenshot with arrows, boxes, text and numbered markers the moment you take it. The tools sit next to your selection, so there is no separate editor to open and no file to re-import.
The annotation tools
Every tool has a one-key shortcut while you annotate. Hover a button to see its key.
| Tool | Key | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Arrow | A | Point at one specific thing |
| Rectangle | R | Box a button, field or error message |
| Ellipse | C | Circle something without hiding it |
| Line | D | Underline text or connect two items |
| Pen | P | Freehand marks |
| Highlighter | M | Draw attention to a line of text |
| Text | T | Add a short label or note |
| Numbered marker | N | Number steps in a guide: 1, 2, 3 and so on |
| Blur | U | Soften a region (not secure, see below) |
| Pixelate | B | Block out detail (not secure, see below) |
| Solid redaction | X | Cover private information with an opaque box |
Also: undo (Ctrl+Z), redo (Ctrl+Y), clear all, color choices, and the mouse wheel to change line thickness.
Example: a clear bug report in one image
A marked-up image answers the questions a plain screenshot leaves open: which element, what is wrong, and in what order to look. Use numbered markers when there are several points, and keep one color for problems so the picture stays readable.
Hide private information the right way
Screenshots often catch names, emails, keys or account numbers. Choose the tool that matches how sure you need to be.
Blur
Not secure
Softens a region. Good for hiding the gist of something, but large or high-contrast text can stay readable.
Pixelate
Not secure
Replaces detail with blocks. Hard to read at a glance, but pixelation of short text can sometimes be reversed or guessed.
Solid redaction
Use this to conceal
Paints an opaque black box into the image you copy or save. Use it for passwords, keys, account numbers and anything you must not leak.
Whichever you use, open the saved image and check it before you send it.
Tips for annotations people understand
Use numbers for sequences
Numbered markers count up automatically (1, 2, 3), and undo renumbers them, so step-by-step guides stay in order.
Keep the style consistent
Pick one color and one thickness for the whole image. Scroll the mouse wheel to change thickness, and open the color button to pick a color.
Say less
A short label such as “Click here” beats a paragraph. Text is a single line, so keep each note short.
What annotation does not do yet
You cannot select, move or delete a single annotation after drawing it; you undo back to it instead. Text is one line per note. Screen recording and share links are not available yet.
