Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what information the QuickSnap website (quicksnaptool.com) and the QuickSnap desktop app handle, who else receives it, and the choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

  • The QuickSnap desktop app does not connect to the internet in its current builds. Your screenshots stay on your computer.
  • The website uses Google Analytics to count visits. It is on by default and you can turn it off from the footer of any page.
  • There are no accounts, sign-up forms, advertising or sale of data.
  • The installers are downloaded from GitHub, and the pages are served by Vercel. Both receive ordinary technical request data when you visit.

The QuickSnap desktop app

QuickSnap captures, annotates, copies and saves screenshots on your own computer. In the current preview builds:

  • Screenshots are held in memory while you edit. They are written to disk only where you choose (the Save dialog), or to a QuickSnap folder inside your Pictures folder if you use the instant-save shortcut. They are placed on the clipboard only when you copy.
  • Settings (shortcuts, image format, options) are stored in a small settings file in the app’s configuration folder on your computer.
  • No network use. The app contains no upload, analytics, crash reporting or update-checking code, so it sends no screenshots, annotation text, clipboard contents or usage data anywhere.
  • Notifications after copying or saving are shown by your operating system and stay on your computer.

Some options in the app (copying a link after uploading, an upload shortcut, a proxy) are stored but do nothing yet, because sharing does not exist yet. If upload is added, it will happen only when you ask for it, and this policy will be updated before it is released.

This website

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and roughly what kind of device and browser they use. Google sets cookies for this and receives information such as the pages you view, your browser and device details, approximate location, and a random identifier. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not receive your name, email address or any identifying details from it.

Analytics runs by default when you visit quicksnaptool.com. We use it because we want to know whether the site is useful. You can turn it off at any time with “Turn off analytics” in the footer of any page. That stops the tag, deletes the Google Analytics cookies and remembers your choice in your browser. You can also use Google’s browser opt-out add-on or block cookies in your browser settings.

Hosting and downloads

The pages are served by Vercel, which, like any web host, processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request in order to deliver pages and keep the service secure. The installers are downloaded from GitHub, which receives the same kind of request data under its own privacy statement. We do not run a database of visitors.

What we do not do

  • We do not ask you to create an account or fill in a form.
  • We do not show advertising, track you across other websites, or sell or rent personal data.
  • We do not read the contents of your screenshots. They never reach us.

Lifetimes are Google’s typical defaults and can change. Nothing is set on your device by the desktop app other than its settings file.

Who else receives data

We do not share data with anyone else, because we do not hold any.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal data, such as asking what is held about you, asking for it to be corrected or deleted, objecting to its use, or complaining to your local data protection authority. Because we do not keep identifying information ourselves, most requests would need to be directed to Google, Vercel or GitHub, and we will point you to the right place. You can turn analytics off yourself at any time, as described above.

Children

QuickSnap and this website are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Security

The website is served over HTTPS with security headers, and the desktop app keeps your screenshots on your own computer. No system is perfectly secure, and you are responsible for the screenshots you save and share; see the Disclaimer for guidance on hiding sensitive details.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its “last updated” date when our practices change, and before any feature that sends data from the app is released.
